At the library, there’s a craft session on Tuesday, October 2, a yoga session on Tuesday, October 9 and a showing of the film “Spirit” on Thursday, October 11. Every event starts at 10.30 am.
The council says: “Library school holiday activities are free. Bookings are essential. Please collect a consent form from the library which must be signed and returned before the event. For more information please call 6730 2600.”
And it offers some ideas of its own to keep idle hands busy:
Northskate Skating Rink; Wednesday to Sunday in the afternoon and in the evening on the first Friday of each month.
Glen Innes Community Centre has table-tennis, Lego and craft sessions for eight to 12 year olds on Fridays from 12.30 to 3.30 pm, but there are only 15 places so you need to book by calling 6732 1682.
The Chapel Theatre is showing movies at $10 per child and $14 per adult.
Alternatively to having fun in the cinema or on skates, you could get them to de-clutter their rooms.
The council is putting out information about the amount of clutter we have. It reckons that nine out of every ten of us have at least one very clogged up room, filled with discarded items we will never ever use but couldn’t bare to throw away.
Now might be the time, says the council.
It cites evidence that the average Australian household has unwanted items which might make $4,200 in a garage sale.
So garage sales might be a good idea as spring progresses towards summer.
The campaigner and author of “Stuff Off!”, Tanya Lewis (according to Glen Innes council), says: “Clutter makes us feel depressed, annoyed and stressed.
Clutter makes us feel depressed, annoyed and stressed. Despite this, most of us struggle to de-clutter because we are emotionally attached to the items in our homes.

Glen Innes Severn Council wonders if it’s time to de-clutter through garage sales.
Not as much fun as films, skating, Lego or table-tennis, though.
