Glen Innes’ annual Red Cross Christmas Tree and Decoration Display opened at the Town Hall on Friday night.

The event, now in its 17th year, is Glen Innes Red Cross’s major fundraiser.
Local and surrounding schools, community groups, businesses, and one individual, all entered decorated Christmas trees and Yuletide decorations into the competition.

Red Range Public School won the Independent Judges Award with the first 3D-printed entry.
The MC Class from Glen Innes High School’s entry, featuring colouring in pencils, was Highly Commended.
The judges were Helen Newsome and Rebecca Rogan.
The public can vote for their choice of winner all this week.
The highest votes receive monetary prizes: first prize of $100 ($50 for schools), second prize of $50 ($25 for schools).
The prize money is sponsorship put up by the East Avenue Medical Centre, AMH Medical Centre, and Timbs and Graydons pharmacies.
The different categories are Family / Individual; Business; Club, Agency or Community Group; High School, Preschool, Family Day Care, Childcare; Schools Years 3 - 6; Schools Years K - 2; Small Schools K - 6; and School K - 6 - Interest Groups.
Junior Red Cross helped with handing out delicious food on opening night, under the watchful eyes of branch representative Mary Hollingworth and teacher Emily Say (granddaughter of longstanding member Nellmary Say).
School students created posters for display in shop windows or at Town Hall.
Santa Claus dropped round to have his photo taken with children.
Margaret Lamph and her helpers created the stage. It features a traditional Christmas theme with Mary and Joseph, the baby Jesus in the crib in the manger, the three wise men, and the farm animals.
“We would love some new members to help run this event!” organizer Loma Wright said.
“New members are always welcome to attend our meetings the second Monday of each month at 2pm at the Community Centre."
