Kathryn Luxford has won an award at Tamworth country music festival – but says she doesn’t really do country music.

“I wouldn’t say I play country, I would say I play a lot of different genres,” she said.
“I try to mix things up wherever I go.”
“It’s Kathryn music,” said dad Barry.
The 15 year old singer-songwriter knocked up her first tune at 9 but can’t read sheet music. She won Tamworth’s junior entertainer of the year award in late January
To win she took on 70 singers from all over the country and overseas in a heat and 7 finalists. She played the Beatles I saw her standing there to a packed crowd of 400.
She said she was waiting sidestage with a friend she’s made in her 6 appearances at the festival. The judges were counting down winners.
“Neither of us had gotten anything yet – we were both going I hope you win. We had this continuous banter.
“I didn’t realise they’d announced my name until someone started pushing me.”
Kathryn was also a grand finalist for Mt Franklin talent quest and played at the Town Hall, Story Tellers and the AELEC in front of thousands.
“I tried to make friends with people, I try not to be too competitive. In my mind I am, but I try not to show it.
“I’m more competitive with myself than I am with other people.”
