Mayor Carol Sparks announced in her mayoral minute last night that from June 3 the council will employ Dubbo's former general manager Mark Riley as top mandarin before hiring a permanent council boss by August.
Mr Riley was Dubbo general manager for 13 years before resigning in late 2017, quitting five months into a three year contract. Glen Innes GM Hein Basson resigned recently to move to Coonamble Shire Council. His last day is Mr Riley's first
Mr Riley left Dubbo Regional Council before he was pushed, with local paper the Daily Liberal reporting at the time that a delegation of councilors approached him to tell him they had the numbers to have him sacked at the next council meeting. Several former mayors spoke about their respect for him and his performance at the time.
Dubbo City Council amalgamated with Wellington shire council in 2016. Mr Riley was paid $817,473 in the financial year of 2017/18 including a termination package.
The Glen Innes Severn council held an extraordinary council meeting on May 9 to determine the recruitment agency they would employ to replace Mr Basson and also who would serve in the interim. Their choice was announced last night.
On Thursday night Graham Price served as acting general manager, as he has for several weeks.
