The torchbearer's president said their donation, matched with a $500 donation by the local RSL club, are the backbone of their most important fundraiser of the year.
Legacy day, which in Glen Innes actually ran on Friday September 6 and Saturday September 7, is one of their only fundraising events of the year.
Without the cash, they can't support widows and wards, paying for everything from firewood to electricity bills.
In thirty years of the fundraiser she's seen some incredible charity.
"The Glen Innes people are just wonderful, they're just so supportive," she said.
"We can get donations up to $2000.
"Now these people are hurting, they're in drought but they still open up their wallets."
Selling badges, bears and other trinkets, she said their dozen-odd volunteers crowding Glen Innes streets would probably have raised between two to four thousand dollars.
