With 43 competitors across town the list of residents getting into the Christmas spirit has never been longer.
And Karen she has a theory about why:
"It's the fact that especially this year, with the drought and the fires and everything, people need that little bit of cheer.
"My kids call it the secret treasure map, the keep asking me if I've finished my secret treasure map today so they can go and look at the lights."
With Christmas still days away there's already a front runner in the race for the bragging rights of being the people's choice best lights in town, an honour that will also win you $50.
A Lambeth street house has put out a Frozen-inspired Christmas display, featuring Olaf and snowmen made of rubber car tyres. The whole show is lit up by an enormous patterned light.
Karen King said she will cast her vote to reward creativity - and interaction.
"The winner last year had a santa out every night giving out lollies. They'd run out to the cars to give lollies!
"I think the interaction made people just fall in love with it; that was 39 Cross Street, the Taylors.
This year there are 22 medium, 4 large and 17 small houses with lights set up, a number that has grown over the years the lights competition has run.
