Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall this week announced the state government wil splash out $64,187 to install the shade sail.

Glen Innes Redfins President Troy Arandale said every improvement made to the pool grounds helped to support the successful swimming program.

"While we are one of the biggest clubs in the region we are also one of the most successful with 21 of our competitors through to their respective state competitions this year," Mr Arandale said.

"As a club we have been working with various swimming bodies to secure the hosting rights of some of our regional qualifying events. With the new sails providing added sun protection for spectators I am confident Glen Innes is in the box seat to cater for future, large-scale swimming carnivals.

"Work on the installation of the sails will start once the pool season goes into shutdown early April and it will be complete and ready for the start of the new season in September."

Mr Marshall attended a recent swimming club training session to announce the funding with President Troy Arandale.

"Outside of Armidale, Glen Innes Swimming Club is one of the largest swim teams in this region with up to 100 participants putting on their goggles and diving in each week," Mr Marshall said.

"With such a large number of competitors every week lining up to swim there's also a large number of volunteers who need a place to stand, marshal competitors and time-keep out of the sun.

"This grant will allow a second large shade sail, similar to the one on the northern end of the pool, to be installed at the southern end of the facility providing added shade for supporters.

"The club has done a really good job ensuring the majority of the shade sail's materials have been sourced locally, with the instillation also to be done by local contractors which will support the economy," he said.
