The Glen Innes Masonic Village resident has been fundraising for the McGrath Foundation over the past months.
John grew a beard and held a Mother's Day raffle, combing tactics to raise as much money as possible for the breast cancer support and education charity. He's witnessed the value of the care that McGrath nurses have provided to a number of ladies in his immediate family who have been treated for breast cancer in the past few years, spurring him to support the Foundation.

John was to have his beard shaved off by Tracey Doust earlier this month, but at the last-minute a proposal was put to him that he keep his beard if the $380 raised was doubled.
Village operator the Royal Freemasons' Benevolent Institution and John's wife Leonie went halves in doubling up the donation, to arrive at a total of $760 that will now be donated to the foundation. Mrs Lee had an ulterior motive, admiring how John looked sporting the beard.
So instead of a close shave John instead was guest-of-honour at a morning tea where he received a beard trim and tidy-up.
His Mother's Day raffle was also drawn. First prize winner Trish Clee donated her Neutrametics hamper back for the Movember fundraisers.
Margaret Cooper took home the embroidered towel set and Amanda Coughlan scored a crocheted rug.
The prizes were generously donated by Helen Jennings, Lyn McLeod and Leonie Lee.
